The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police has stated that the earlier restriction placed on the operations of Commercial Tricycles popularly known as ‘Keke Napep’ between 7PM to 6AM within Yenagoa environs, the Bayelsa State capital is still in force.
Mr. Romokere Ibani who is the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command stated this while addressing newsmen after the 24th Bayelsa State Security Council Meeting held in Government House, Yenagoa recently.
The Commissioner of Police however noted that only officers of the law are exempted from the ban but not without a permit which can be obtained from the Special adviser to the Governor on Security through the Coordinator of the Community Safety Corps.
He said:
Tricycles remain banned from 7 pm to 6am. However, a decision is taken that, if you are an officer of the law, and you are going to work from a far distance and you have a motorcycle, you can ride it, but that is not without a permit. The SA security through the coordinator of the community safety corps, will issue out tags which all the security heads will collect and give to their members.
It may be recalled that following the unfortunate deaths arising from a clash between commercial tricycle (keke) riders and youths of Yenizue-Epie community in Yenagoa LGA, on 19th April 2023 Governor Douye Diri on Thursday 20th April 2023 directed the restriction of movement of commercial tricycles between 7pm and 6am.
The Commissioner also stated that anybody seen destroying party billboards or individual billboards will be arrested and dealt with.
