2022 National Honours Award Investiture Ceremony was held at the International Conference Center, Abuja on Tuesday 10th October 2022.
According to the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, George Akume over 5000 nominees were presented to the 2022 National Honours Awards Committee for consideration.
However, only 447 persons made the hallowed list.
The nominees were drawn from various walks of life across the public and private sectors who have proven their mettle in their respective fields of endeavours.
Some Bayelsan also made the list of the 2022 National Honours award recipients and were conferred with awards by President Muhammadu Buhari.
These distinguished Bayelsans and the categories of their awards are:
- HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff – CFR
- Dr. Azibapu God bless Eruani (President Azikel Group of Companies) – CFR
- Hon. Timipre Sylva (Minister of Petroleum and former Governor of Bayelsa State) -CON
- RT Hon. Benson Friday Konbowei (Bayelsa Central Senatorial PDP Flagbearer) -OON
- Chief Nengi J. James (Vice President, Ijaw National Congress and Human Rights Activist) -OON
- Chief Benson Sunday Agadaga (Bayelsa West Senatorial PDP Flagbearer) – MON
MON stands for ‘Member of the Order of the Niger’
OON stands for ‘Officer of the Order of the Niger’
CON stands for ‘Commander of the Order of the Niger’
CFR stands for ‘Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic’
The National Honours Awards was established by the National Honours Act of No 6 in 1964 which took retroactive effect from October 1, 1963.
The Act empowers the President by wattant, the Nigerian Order of Dignity to honour deserving citizens who have contributed to the development and progress of the country in any field of endeavour.
