UN Rescue Services to build low-cost income housing estate in Ogbia

The Bayelsa State Government has acquired 10 hectares of land in Ogbia Local Government Area for the United Nations Rescue Services to build a 100 unit low-cost income housing estate.

The United Nations Rescue Services is a non-governmental body affiliated to the United Nation Economic and Social Council and is headed by a Nigerian, Ambassador Steve Midalah.

The State’s Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to coordinate the process on behalf of the state government to ensure transparency and accountability in allotting the homes when completed.

Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Benson Agadaga , who led the delegation to Ogbia to acquire the land, lauded the initiative, which he notes will help reduce the housing deficit in the state.

He expressed appreciation to the United Nations Rescue Services for collaborating with the Prosperity Government and assured that the housing units will be allocated to the targeted individuals.

Chief Agadaga however appealed to the people to support the government by ensuring the safety of lives and property of those visiting the state so as not to project the state in bad light.

The delegation also visited the Dr. Melford Obiene Okilo Hospital at Ogbia town.

Apart from the housing sector, the United Nations Rescue Service has earmarked about 3.5 billion dollars for some developmental projects in the state.
