Opinion: Bayelsa Gas Turbine is not for sale and it can never be for sale if our great people says it is not not for Sale

Our great sage, father and hero; His Excellency Chief (Dr) Melford Obiene Okilo the First Civilian Governor of Old Rivers State conceptualized and also built that Gas Turbine so that our great people will have uninterrupted electricity and indeed, our people started enjoying uninterrupted electricity since the early 1980s when many were still far away from civilization.

The whole of what we have today as Bayelsa State and part of Rivers State precisely Abua/Odual Local Government Area and part of Ahoada West LGA in Rivers State never paid for Electricity yet, they enjoyed electricity more than all cities in the country.

The people of the above area experienced early exposure and civilization because of the Electricity that made our great people to have unhindered access to information.

The truism that Light is Life manifested in so many ways.

But all that became history after the creation of Bayelsa State precisely at the inception of our contemporary democracy.

During the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha administration, the Gas Turbine was used to siphon so much state resource. It was sabotaged every month end in order to divert money in the name of going abroad for repair of its part.

There was great improvement of electricity during the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration in the state.

Chief Timipre Sylva also did so much to provide electricity for Bayelsans. He even built a brand new Gas Turbine that was commissioned by President Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, but Gov. Henry Seriake Dickson destroyed everything and plunged the entire area into perpetual and very deafening darkness.

The action of Dickson because of his avowed hatred for Bayelsa East Senatorial District (Ogbia, Nembe and Brass LGA), succeeded in destroying the economy and commerce of the area including social life.

Presently, the rumoured sell of the Gas Turbine is unacceptable and should be resisted by all men and women of goodwill. Bayelsans are in dire need of infrastructure and not sell of the few available ones.

His Excellency Gov. Douye Diri is a refined and a very responsible leader that listens to his people and I am very sure that he will never be party to such clandestine, nasty, inhuman, irresponsible and anti-people move to sell the Gas Turbine at Imiringi Town.

Finally, those who are involved in this shameful and very condemnable act should have a rethink and desist from this provocative act in order not to incur the full wrath of our people who are ready to do everything legally and lawfully possible to stop the sell and subsequent removal of that Gas Turbine which is one of the greatest legacies of our great sage Chief (Sen) Dr. Melford Obiene Okilo.
