[Post_ads]Nigeria gained political independence from Britain on the 1st October, 1960. Since then it has been ruled by fourteen Wisemen namely, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Alhaji Abubakar Tarawa Balewa, General Johnson Thomas Umunakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, General Yakubu Jack Gowon, General Murtala Mohammed, General Olusegun Okikiola Aremu Matthew Obasanjo, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Shagari, General Muhammadu Buhari, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan, General Sani Abacha, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and Mr Muhammadu Buhari.
Events have shown that it takes the special grace of God who alone gives power for one to be counted among the above wisemen. While seven have joined their ancestors, seven are still living. Cheerfully, the Ijaw Nation which is the fourth largest ethnic tribe beside Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba and Ibo (Igbo) is so privileged and blessed by God to have her illustrious son, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan among the seven living deities and legends.
Beyond been among the enviable wisemen, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan GCFR is honoured and celebrated as one of the best and greatest. He is called the hero, symbol and face of contemporary democracy and he commands unimaginable respect among world leaders especially because of the positive ideals he represents.
His political philosophy and the ideals he represents has endeared him to billions of people all over the world. This is evidence in the way and manner he is cheered and celebrated as global icon of democracy.
Significantly and strategically, these wisemen always have a say in whatever that happen in Nigeria including who governs. It is near impossible to ascend the exalted seat of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic without their blessings.
Our great leader, hero and legend Dr. Goodluck Jonathan GCFR has built himself to an enviable height where the international community depend largely on his unbiased, objective and dispassionate judgement on so many issues and areas. [Post_ads2]
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has given meaning to our contemporary democracy. Before his administration political leaders were handpicked by few privileged elites and the ruling class. The masses were never considered or given opportunity to choose or determine those who who represented or governed them. As a globally renowned and celebrated democrat, he used himself to experiment free, fair and credible election. In his case he never lost election yet he decided to concede defeat in the interest of Nigerians. He never wanted to endanger any Nigerian. This again is a clear testimony of his daily political slogan, mantra and anthem that his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.
It was indeed a very great, unquantifiable and immeasurable sacrifice that he made and that singular sacrifice has given so much power and impetus to the masses. Goodluck Jonathan voluntarily returned political power to the masses who are the electorates. He has made ordinary Nigerians to realize that they are the Employers (Bosses) while elected officers be it the President and Commander-in-Chief, State Governors, Senators, members of the Federal House of Representatives, members of the State Houses of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen and Councillors are all Employees (Boys/Servants) of the masses.
Before the famous electoral reforms of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, the ruling class (elites) never had any respect or regard for the ordinary people. But today, the masses who make up the highest voting population are now treated like the beautiful bride.
It is important to make one point very clear here as I conclude this piece that till the end of time, the history of the political evolution of the Nigerian State shall be grossly incomplete, doctored and mutilated without the mention and proper acknowledgement of the great role Dr. Goodluck Jonathan played in shaping contemporary Nigerian democracy and by extension in the African continent.
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is not a local champion but a global icon whose wealth of knowledge and experiences are appreciated all over the world. At the home front he remains our very loud vocal voice, mouthpiece and image. When political watchers and observers look south ward, they see Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. When they look at the Niger Delta region (South-South) and the South East, they see only Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who has been a great pillar and shield, giving us so much power, influence and protection.
The greatest thing we owe him is to continually pray for him that Almighty God will grant him divine health and long life so that he will continue to do the great work God is using him to do in our daily lives.
